Dyson lamp keeps turning off? Causes and troubleshooting

If your Dyson Lightcycle, Solarcycle or Solarcycle Morph lamp keeps turning off unexpectedly, there can be several possible causes.

These may include motion sensing, a temporary power connection issue, software, the power adapter, or another hardware fault.

A failing power adapter is one possible cause, especially when the lamp shuts down at irregular intervals or works again temporarily after the power is disconnected and reconnected.

Before replacing anything, try these basic checks.

1. Check motion sensing

Some Dyson lamps can switch off automatically when motion sensing is enabled and no movement is detected.

Check your lamp settings and make sure the motion sensor is not responsible for the shutdown.

2. Disconnect and reconnect the power

Switch the lamp off and disconnect the power adapter from the mains.

Reconnect it and observe whether the lamp starts working normally again.

If reconnecting the power temporarily restores normal operation but the problem later returns, the power supply may be worth investigating.

3. Observe how the lamp shuts down

Pay attention to the pattern.

Common symptoms associated with a possible power-related issue include:

• The lamp turns off after a few minutes.
• Shutdown happens at inconsistent intervals.
• Unplugging and reconnecting the power temporarily helps.
• The problem becomes more frequent over time.

These symptoms do not confirm that the adapter has failed, but if several appear together, the power adapter is one possible cause.

Our experience

This store started with our own Dyson Solarcycle Morph floor lamp.

After several years of use, the lamp began turning itself off after a few minutes. The timing was inconsistent, and disconnecting and reconnecting the power adapter sometimes restored normal operation temporarily.

We contacted Dyson support and were initially told that a replacement adapter would be arranged. After waiting for several months without receiving one, we contacted Dyson again and were told that the adapter had been discontinued.

That led us to look for compatible aftermarket alternatives and to document the compatibility information more clearly for other owners facing the same problem.
